Ronald Gasser was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the shooting death of former NFL running back Joe McKnight, the Jefferson Parish District Attorney announced Thursday.
The 49ers signing Richard Sherman to a three-year, $39 million deal Saturday is among the most peculiar and interesting acquisitions in recent Bay Area football history,The 49ers 鈥?signing their arch nemesis?,What happened? Is this a Madden simulation?,It’s no doubt going to be strange seeing Sherman in red and gold in 2018, but there are a variety of good reasons 鈥?and more than a few concerns 鈥?about the 49ers’ latest bit of business,Here are some thoughts on the 49ers signing Sherman:Sherman knows the 49ers system as well as anyone on the planet,The 49ers’ single-high safety system 鈥?Cover 1 or Cover 3 鈥?is tricky for cornerbacks.
Game Youth Datone Jones Jersey It requires size, strength, and guile 鈥?on top of incredible ball skills and fast hips.
Not every cornerback is built to play in a Cover-1/Cover-3 system, but Sherman is perhaps the best to ever do it,The 49ers ripped their defensive scheme off from the Seahawks and hired Robert Saleh 鈥?a former defensive quality control coach in Seattle 鈥?to run it as defensive coordinator,Now they have that Seattle defense experience on the field as well,The only way for this to be a better scheme fit is if the Seahawks had re-signed ShermanBut is Sherman going to be healthy?,Sherman tore his Achilles tendon in November and is about to turn 30 years old.
Norwell made the team in 2014 as an undrafted free agent and became a starter early in his rookie season. He was a full-time starter in 2015 and 2016, but earned first-team All-Pro honors for the first time in his career in 2017.
The Jaguars already had a pretty effective running game last season. It should be an even more effective part of their game plan with Norwell in the fold. He’s an especially effective pass blocker. According to Pro Football Focus, Norwell didn’t allow a single sack last season and was their top-graded pass blocker among guards.
Building the lines has been an effective strategy for the Panthers, and a necessary one to protect and complement the unique skills of quarterback Cam Newton. That’s exactly what Norwell has done.
That results in a lot of punishment for the 6’6, 260-pound quarterback. Building an offensive line with players as good as Norwell has helped keep Newton upright as a passer and bolsters a rushing attack that finished the season No. 4 in rushing Craig Anderson Womens Jersey yards thanks largely to the star quarterback.

After trading Jarvis Landry to the Browns, the Dolphins needed a replacement in the slot and found one in former Chiefs wideout Albert Wilson.
One thing that has not changed since the cap/free agency system arrived: The bulk of contract signings take place in March and April. Before unrestricted free agency hit the NFL, agents would wait until just before the start of training camp or several days into camp to put their best foot forward in negotiations, because the players’ only leverage was to threaten a training camp holdout.
That was my favorite part about the arrival of the cap system, as there became a perception that deals had to get done quickly before a team’s cap money dried up. Today, teams even get a two-day legal tampering window to start negotiations 锟斤拷 as if they haven’t been talking with agents for the past two months, which has been the case since the dawn of free agency in the 90s.
Trai Turner Limited Jersey We cannot thank Jordy enough for all Frank Clark Jersey that he has given the Green Bay Packers and our community for the past 10 years, general manager Brian Gutekunst said in a release. He has been an exemplary professional and teammate and greatly contributed to our success.
Jordy will always be a member of the Packers family and we look forward to his eventual induction into the Packers Hall of Fame. We wish Jordy, his wife Emily, and the rest of their family all the best.
The move came minutes after the reported three-year signing of Graham, who has spent the last three years in Seattle. With the Seahawks, Graham posted 18 total touchdowns (10 coming last season) and 2,048 receiving yards.
It was rumored that Graham, 31, would return to New Orleans, especially after the Saints re-signed quarterback Drew Brees, but that was not the case.
Nelson, 33, spent his entire 10-year career in Green Bay, but he slowed down significantly last season. His yards per catch was 9.1 in 2017 and he managed just 53 receptions and 483 yards in 15 games, which was much lower than previous years.
The Athletics have reached agreement on a one-year contract with free-agent catcher Jonathan Lucroy, MLB.com reports.
The two-time All-Star has been the most prominent free-agent catcher this offseason, and had been expected to command a multiyear deal, but in a slow market that apparently didn’t happen.
Let’s just say Ohtani probably didn’t pack multiple rain jackets on his flight from Japan.
So, yeah, of course it rained on the back fields of the Tempe Diablo Stadium complex Wednesday, where Ohtani and his fellow pitchers (and catchers) conducted their first official workout of the spring. It started sprinkling a few minutes after 11 a.m., while Ohtani was playing catch with fellow right-hander Felix Pena. It picked up a few minutes later, when Ohtani’s group of pitchers ran through drills covering first base on Field No. 2. The rain slowed a bit as the group moved to an outfield-less infield for bunt-fielding drills.
His goals have not diminished since he made it to MLB at the age of 20 and they continue to get higher.
“I don’t want to be one of the top [players]; I want to be the top one,” Correa told MLB.com. “That’s what everybody wants to do. That’s why we play.”
Correa is just 23-years-old. He won’t turn 24 until September, but he has already won the American League Rookie of the Year award, been selected to an All-Star game, and won a World Series with the Astros in 2017.
He isn’t done though. He has his sights set on one more award, even if he doesn’t necessarily think he has to win it this year.
“MVP is something I don’t want to retire without winning one,” he said. “It would be like a dream come true…That’s amazing. I don’t know if it’s this year, but at some point, I’d like to win that, and I’ll just try to improve my game every single day to try to accomplish that.”
LaVar Ball continues to move up in the basketball world.
Ball will serve as head coach Sunday for Vytuatas’ game against Jonavos Jonava in the final matchup of the Big Baller Brand Challenge Games, the team announced.
Ball had previously served as assistant coach during Vytuatas’ 147-142 win over BC Dzukija earlier this week.
If you go with eight teams or fewer, your rosters will be stacked with plenty of star power, though you can counter that by enlarging the size of each team’s roster, like using two starters at every position or several utility players. This can be a fun way to get the ball rolling if you are a newbie.
Ten teams is the traditional size of most leagues. The player pool is deep enough that each team has stars, but managers will still have the challenge of picking up free agents and players who are getting hot.
George is averaging 20.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game on the season.
For a greater challenge, try using 12 or 14 teams. In bigger leagues like that, the player pool is thinned out enough that managers will need to have knowledge of lesser-known players in order to succeed.
Rosters: Standard rosters include one catcher (C), one first baseman (1B), one second baseman (2B), one shortstop (SS), one third baseman (3B), one middle infielder (MI) — filled by a 2B/SS, one corner infielder (CI) — filled by a 1B/3B, five outfielders (OF), one utility (UTIL) spot — filled by any position, nine pitchers (P), and three bench (BE) spots. Those who are on your bench are players who are on your roster but not in your starting lineup.
The fun part of fantasy baseball is all of these options can be adjusted however you see fit. Every league is a little different, and some league commissioners find certain roster settings more fun than others. The options are endless, really.
The Thunder need to do something in the wake of losing forward Andre Roberson for the season, and it looks like their short-term plans include pursuing Clippers guard Avery Bradley who Los Angeles recently acquired in the Blake Griffin trade.
According to the Washington Post, the Thunder have expressed interest in acquiring Bradley who would give Oklahoma City a very similar player to Roberson.
According the the Boston Herald, the Celtics are actively pursuing trades for Clippers guard Lou Williams and Grizzlies guard/forward Tyreke Evans.
Williams, who is averaging 23.5 points and 5.2 assists per game, has been linked to multiple teams as the NBA trade deadline looms on Feb. 8.
The sophomore appears capable of providing the requisite shooting needed to space the floor after struggling from the foul line during his freshman season. At this point, Bridges is a career 37.9 percent 3-point shooter on 285 attempts. He hoists more than seven 3s per 40 minutes and is shooting an impressive 88.8 percent from the foul line. That’s up from 68.5 percent last season and drastically swings his projected NBA 3-point numbers from league average to the high 30s. Bridges has converted 36.4 percent of his NBA range 3s this season.
Jordan, 29, is averaging 11.6 points and 14.9 rebounds per contest in 46 games this season.
The second start of his NBA career was not going to be easy for guard Terry Rozier, not after wowing in his first start on Wednesday, in which he posted a 17-point, 11-rebound, 10-assist triple-double. But, on Friday, he handled himself well against the Hawks: 31 points on 11-for-18 shooting to go with seven rebounds in a Boston win without injured point guards Kyrie Irving or Marcus Smart.
“When you come off the bench you don’t know exactly the timing,” Rozier said. “You should come out aggressive and the same mindset and be ready no matter if you’re starting or not. But like I said, if you are starting you can just think about it all day and know you’re starting so it’s just a little different.”
For an added bonus, the Celtics got a big day from rookie forward Jayson Tatum, who scored a career-high 27 points on 11-for-19 shooting. Tatum’s last three performances (he had 20 points two games ago and 15 on Wednesday) have helped alleviate some concerns about his flagging production in January.
Russell Westbrook didn’t waste much time putting just his second single-digit scoring game of the season behind him.
Before the injury was announced in December, Noel had appeared to fall out of favor with coach Rick Carlisle. The first six of those 42 missed games were listed as coaching decisions. He’s playing on a one-year contract after he couldn’t agree on a long-term deal with the Mavericks, who acquired him at the trading deadline last season.
James also became the first frontcourt player and the 11th overall in league history to reach 8,000 assists.
Rodney Hood’s three-point play with 40 seconds remaining gave Cleveland a 123-121 lead. James and George Hill hit two free throws each in the final 16 seconds to seal the win.
Jarrett Allen’s two free throws gave Brooklyn a 119-117 lead with 1:18 to play. Jordan Clarkson’s 3-pointer put Cleveland ahead, but Allen Crabbe’s runner in the lane put the Nets up 121-120.
Hood, one of four players acquired at the trade deadline, hit a jumper from the wing and made the foul shot that gave Cleveland a two-point lead.
The Pistons outscored Milwaukee 56-34 in the paint and had 15 offensive rebounds in the first half alone. They finished the game with 22.
“You can’t give a team that many extra possessions and have a chance to win,” Milwaukee’s Jabari Parker said. “If we take away those extra possessions, we’re right back in the game.”
Blake Griffin had eight points, nine rebounds and seven assists for Detroit, which trails Miami by three games for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Milwaukee is one game ahead of the Heat.
Eric Bledsoe scored 19 points for the Bucks, who have lost three straight. Milwaukee star Giannis Antetokounmpo left with 10:08 remaining in the game with an apparent injury around his right eye.
“We’ve been told that it is an eye, and he’ll be re-evaluated tomorrow,” Bucks coach Joe Prunty said.
Reggie Bullock scored 12 of his 16 points in the first quarter for the Pistons. It was tied at 32 after one, then Detroit held Milwaukee to 12 points in the second and led 53-44 at halftime.
The Pistons led by as many as 20 in the third and weren’t seriously threatened down the stretch. Milwaukee missed its first 11 shots from the field in the fourth.
Detroit finished with a 57-35 advantage on the boards. Drummond had 10 offensive rebounds. It was his 18th career game with at least 10, the most among active players.
Eagles tackle Lane Johnson promised the city of Philadelphia free beer if the Eagles won the Super Bowl back in August. Later that afternoon, Bud Light agreed that if the Eagles won, they’d back up that promise.
While Bud Light will be offering beer at the Eagles’ parade on Thursday, it won’t be all-you-can-drink as initially believed. Philly Mag spoke with a spokesperson for Anheuser-Busch, who described how it’s going to work:
The rep says that the company is giving away one free Bud Light per person 21 and up at bars along the parade route, which covers quite a bit of ground. On Monday, the city confirmed that the Super Bowl parade in Philly is currently slated to go from way down at Broad and Pattison in South Philadelphia all the way up to the Art Museum. There are a lot of bars along the way. There won’t be free Bud Light at all of them.
Pereira also waded into the debate surrounding the NFL’s catch rule, even harking back to the infamous 2014 Dez Bryant non-catch.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has previously signaled the league’s intent to revisit the catch rule this offseason, and Pereira has made it clear that changes must be made.
Under my proposal, said Pereira, and what I think the rule ought to change to be, then I think Dez Bryant’s catch was a catch.
Fans throughout the star-studded crowd reacted with varying levels of bemusement and enthusiasm while her languid, two-plus-minute version of the song continued. Although Fergie was on pitch, her tempo, musical accompaniment and sexy delivery were not exactly typical for a sporting event or a patriotic song.
Golden State All-Star Draymond Green captured the mood — and became an instant GIF — when he was shown open-mouthed on the scoreboard and the television broadcast in apparent confusion over the unique vocal stylings. Green then chuckled to himself after realizing he was on TV.
After a forceful finish, Fergie finally got big cheers when she shouted, “Let’s play some basketball!”
The Grammy Award-winning singer, born Stacy Ann Ferguson, is from nearby Hacienda Heights, California.
Tom Brady won the NFL’s MVP award for a third time in his career on Saturday.
However, before then, somebody was spotted at a Patriots presser with Brady’s pre-written speech during Super Bowl week:
Brady was already named the MVP by the Pro Football Writers of America, and while he’s got five Super Bowls on his resume, he’s got just two NFL MVP awards. In his 16 starts this season, the Patriots went 13-3 while he threw for 4,577 yards, 32 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Defenseman Michal Kempny, acquired this week from the Chicago Blackhawks, made his Capitals debut and was on ice for each of Washington’s two even-strength goals against.
“He was fine,” coach Barry Trotz told the team’s website regarding Kempny’s debut. “There are going to be a lot of things you’re going to like about Michal. I thought for his debut he did all right.”
On Monday in Buffalo, John Carlson had a goal and an assist and Philipp Grubauer made 32 saves in Washington’s 3-2 win.
Despite their clean bill of health that included news that star tight end Rob Gronkowski would play, the betting line has remained steady with New England going off as 4.5-point favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The opening line of New England -6 was almost immediately bet down to -4.5 and has stuck there all week in the final moments leading up to the game.
The spread is an interesting one. Both teams enter this game with identical 15-3 SU and 12-6 ATS records. During the regular season, the Eagles allowed one less point on defense at 295 than the Patriots did at 296, and on offense the Patriots scored one more point than the Eagles at 458 to 457.
New England and Philadelphia are seemingly evenly matched, so this spread simply boils down to Nick Foles not getting the same respect as Carson Wentz may have and New England’s reputation as an unbeatable force.
The Patriots are a perfect 13-0 SU and ATS in their last 13 games as a favorite of seven points or less per the OddsShark NFL Database. But in the Super Bowl, six of New England’s last seven appearances have been decided by four points or less, with the only exception being last year’s overtime win against Atlanta.
When Seattle traded for reliever David Phelps last July, Mariners manager Scott Servais believed his team was adding a player that could help the team reach the postseason.
In deeper formats where it might be tougher to secure saves during the season, then I will likely bypass the top-100 closers — I always do — and take four or five lesser relief pitchers with the hope a few perform well and secure roles.
That appears likely to change in 2017-18, with Xavier currently leading the league by a game and a half and staring down a very manageable slate to end the regular season. Saturday’s tussle between the two league front-runners has monster ramifications not just for which team is going to win the league, but for which is more likely to hear its name called as a No. 1 seed on Selection Sunday.
If Xavier takes down Nova on Saturday (something it hasn’t had a whole lot of success doing since joining the league), then the race should be about over. If the Wildcats continue their dominance over X, then we’ll all go back to wondering if any other team is capable of winning a title in the new Big East.
Alex Presley and the Baltimore Orioles have agreed to a minor league contract, and the outfielder will report of major league spring training.
The 32-year-old has a .263 average in eight seasons with Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Houston, Milwaukee and Detroit. He hit .314 with 3 home runs and 20 RBI in 71 games for the Tigers in 2017.
Sure enough, the Mountaineers’ FBS residence began as feared. In their first FBS contest, a symbolic meeting with Michigan (whom they famously upset in 2007), they lost by 38. And Michigan wasn’t even that good. Appalachian State lost to Southern Miss and fellow FBS newbies Georgia Southern and South Alabama, then got upset by Liberty for good measure. The team was 1-5, and both Satterfield’s tenure (he was 5-14 to that point) and the FBS jump were looking like really bad ideas.
Kahnle’s breakthrough was not only completely legitimate, it supported his skill set as one of the 15 most closer-worthy pitchers in baseball (and that could be understating it). Thanks in large part to a mechanical tweak — shortening the leg kick in his delivery — he was able to slash his walk rate by more than half, while boosting his average fastball velocity to a career-high 97.8 mph. And yet he might not even start the year as one of the first three relievers in saves on his own team.
But the Thunder chose cap flexibility and avoiding luxury-tax payments instead of keeping its core together. They traded James Harden to Houston for Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb and a pair of first-round picks. Houston, not Cleveland, is now the biggest threat to Golden State’s championship hopes, while Westbrook is the only pillar of OKC’s Big 4 remaining, though they have ostensibly successfully rebuilt around him.
The Warriors will face a similar predicament soon: Cough up the cash or sacrifice everything they’ve built to evade hefty luxury tax fees. They are already paying a bigger luxury tax bill than any team in the league, but that may change in the years to come, especially if the core as is fails to fend off the Rockets.
Remember: Thompson told The Vertical’s Shams Charania he felt Kind of disrespected that people keep using the term sacrifice to describe me and describe us. We all want to see each other do well. But I’m not sacrificing shit because my game isn’t changing.
Must they run their mouths like that? Ingraham said in the segment. Unfortunately, a lot of kids — and some adults — take these ignorant comments seriously. Look, there might be a cautionary lesson in LeBron for kids: This is what happens when you attempt to leave high school a year early to join the NBA. And it’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid a hundred million dollars a year to bounce a ball. Oh, and LeBron and Kevin: You’re great players but no one voted for you. Millions elected Trump to be their coach. So keep the political commentary to yourself or, as someone once said, shut up and dribble.
I actually laughed first when I saw the reports. Then I watched the videos and saw how it was put off. I had no idea who she is or what she do, but she won in that case because now I know who she is. For her to go up there and say what she said… First of al I would have had a little more respect for her if she wrote those words, she probably said t right off the teleprompter but that’s ok.
